Diagnosed in March with HbA1c at 98. Three month blood test yesterday and just got the result.....47.

Also stepped on the scales yesterday, lost another 3lbs last week so that now makes exactly 2 and a half stone lost.

Appointment made with the diabetic nurse for two weeks time, can I hope my current metformin dose might be reduced(500mg with breakfast, 500mg with evening meal)?

Thanks to all for the words of encouragement. I only discovered the forum last week and wish I had known about it earlier it's proving so useful. Whilst my ultimate goal is to control things with diet and exercise, hope this does not sound silly but I know on metformin I can't have a hypo but could I if not on medication?
I am only three months in and it is all still new to me, but want to live as healthily as possible with my condition.

I've never been on medication and my last HbA1c was 42 (from 53 at diagnosis. I'm currently getting BG readings in the 6s and have never had a hypo - as far as I know Type 2s don't get real hypos but may have 'false' ones as their BG levels drop. I use a low carb and full fat diet and my meter to tell me what it's safe to eat and to help me lose weight.

Keep reading and learning as well as asking questions.
 
Thanks for the responses, just rang the doctors back as I had forgotten to ask about my cholesterol result. To be confirmed when I see the diabetic nurse, but If the person I spoke to gave me them right I have gone from 7.1 in Feb to 2.6.
