Are there any ideal levels for post meal blood sugars?
I've been testing before and two hours after meals to try an uderstand what's going on and also starting to build a picture of my response to different carb types and amounts to eventually be able to self-manage my dosages.
I have a target 4-8 before meals, 4-6 on waking, but what about the 2 hour post meal? I read somewhere that anything less than 10 was OK, but can't remember the basis for it.
They tell me to try to maintain between 5 and 9 at all times but a good additional guide is no more than 2 above the pre meal level by 2 hours after - I measure 2 hours after I started the meal as this generally gives me the higher reading.
Diagnosed Type II 1998 1 x 80 mg Gliclazide, 4 x 500mg Metformin and 1 x 100mg Sitagliptin - HbA1c - 48 mmol/mol
the highest BG is reached about 75 minutes after commencing a meal. By 2 hours after, it should be back pretty much to pre-meal level.
For my personal preference, since normal non-diabetic is about 5, I try not to get above 6

Remember though if you are taking quick acting insulin with the meal, at 2 hours you could have about 20% or so still active so your levels will fall further at 3 and 4 hours.
