I'm new here but felt like I needed to join after reading a few forums and seeing the support on here.
I was told I had high blood sugar earlier this year, I'm not sure what test I had but she said my result was 43, and that 42 was normal meaning I had Prediabetes. I have made changes to my lifestyle, I joined the gym but really struggling with changing my diet and felt myself giving up, I'm completely terrified as I know I haven't done my best but going into the new year optimistic and ready to make big changes
I'm not sure how long it takes to develop full blown diabetes but I have a blood test this week so fingers crossed but preparing myself either way.
You might have your "get out of jail card" but regardless, diet and exercise will help enormously. Stay where you're at if you're pre diabetic and do NOT let up. Don't want you as a T2 member if you get my drift.
Hi and welcome to the forum. This is definately the right place to be for help and support. By those numbers you are just pre diabetic so even slight diet and lifestyle changes will most probably be enough to get you below 41. If at all possible the best changes that will impact your numbers will be through diet though. If you can try to cut down on starchy carbs like bread, potatoes, pasta and rice it should benefit you greatly. It took me a year to sort my diet out so its not a quick fix but it makes the long term management easier. I will tag @daisy1 and she will post you some great information to read. If you have any questions just ask.
Hi @Max2016 and welcome to the forum! HbAic levels below 42 are 'normal', 42-47 are prediabetes, and 48 or over are diabetic.
You are lucky, in a way, to have been told you are prediabetic and have time to bring your blood glucose levels down. I was told last year that I was at 47, but it wasn't explained what that meant and I just thought it was the usual doctors' warning to scare me into eating more healthily.
I wish I had known more before I went to 49 this year as I would have done more to avoid becoming diabetic. You can lower your HbAic figures by changing your diet and exercise. You have started with the exercise, and need to modify your diet. A lot of the people on here including myself, have brought their figures down by adopting a Low Carbohydrate High Fat diet. Carbohydrates turn to sugar in your body so they need to be avoided as much as possible. It is difficult at first to work out what you can eat, but there is a lot of good advice and support on here.
