I've been prescribed a 5 day course of Prednisolone (40 mg / day) for a flare up of my asthma. I have also been using my steroid inhaler more than usual for the last few days to try and control the asthma.
I'm fairly newly diagnosed (July 16) and have been following a LCHF diet and slightly increasing my exercise. All good for now and generally get BG readings in or just above the normal ranges - more 6's, 7's and 8's than 4's and 5's though.
I took the first dose at 3pm and did a BG test at the same time which was 6.1. So far so good! Appetite is a bit none existent at the moment due to the asthma and an infection (on antibiotics for this) so haven't eaten much at all today. I did have some Pork Scratchings with and after the steroids to avoid nausea (probably took me about an hour to get through the small pack!)
So is this expected? I know the rise is expected but are the times about right? Is the level of rise right? If I test at 5.5 hrs should it be rising or falling by then?
Sorry for all the questions. I really need this course of steroids so there is no way I am going to stop taking them, I would just like to know what to expect.
Increased bg is common with prednisolone, they are slow release so when they affect your bg is totally individual. The good news when you stop taking them BG will return to normal fairly quickly.
Your BG readings between 4 and 8 are really good, a big pat on ones back is in order.
Please get a copy of this book its aimed at people using insulin, its called " think like a pancrease" by Gary Scheiner. It will cost you about £12 worth every penny and explains a lot.

Edit, sorry just re read your post your type 2 and probably not using insulin, sorry.
Just did the 5.5 hrs test and it is stable at 12.6. Definitely slow release then Think I will keep testing until I see a drop and then take the next 4 doses early evening and let it do it's worst and not test anymore!
Not wishing to wade into the drugs in Sport debate but I have had asthma for a couple of decades and needed Steroid treatment on a number of occasions and have only ONCE been offered / given a steroid injection and that was in America! I took today's dose at 3pm and have only just (very slowly!) managed to climb the 2 flights of stairs in my house I suppose I may need to wait a couple of days before I feel up to cycling over 3,000 km guess I did just wade right in there
