Hi, just wanted to give you some info on metformin. The use Metformin has become more widespred in the preganncy over the last couple of years , this is larlely due to the fact it gives an steady blood suger reading avoiding the peaks and troughs often associated with insulin, a more consistant blood suger reading in pregnancy reduced the chances of the baby expereince hypoglyceamia when delivered.
The reason the packet will state not suitable for pregancy is due to the fact that large scale drug trials are not carried out in pregnant women therefore the drug companies will be state safe to use on the packakging. This is the case with most drugs even antibiotics the packaging will state use with caution when pregnant. What happens instead is the drug is intruduced gradual with cafefully mointering of side effects to both mother and baby, and after a period becomes considered `safe` to use , this is the case with metformin.
However saying all of this it dosn't mean in is the best thing for you, so if you having doubts ask to go back to see your consultant, and disscuss it further
Hope i haven't confused you any more
