Prescription Charges

I am a recently diagnosed type 2, my Dr as prescribed 2 500 Met. slow release tablets. She also signed a prescription exemption certificate for me. Does that mean all my prescriptions are now free or just diabetic related medication?

That means and I'm sure I'm correct all prescriptions are free, I'm type one and have never paid for any script even stuff that's not diabetes related although a couple of doctors I've queried this with over the years have said " most things you have on script relate to your type 1 other scripts you have prevent your type 1 causing major problems " seems sensible to me .
 
Yes all free I have had levothyroxine since my 20's and was exempt from having to pay

Yes as others have said all free Do make sure the form is sent off and you have the credit card size exemption cert in yur possession when collecting prescriptions.
 
My Drs as it own pharmacy within the surgery, when I went collect my prescription I stated that I had filled in an exemption certificate. She then stated she recalled seeing and said just sign the prescription but don't date it, and they would date it later when plastic card comes through!
 
I am in Scotland ... Don't pay for ant script anyway .... Sorry just showing off..
 
You still need to send the form off or you could face a penalty if you don't have the exemption certificate from NHS Business Services Authority.
 
Having said that, they will be free anyway when you turn 60, so not long to go.
 
Yes I filled the form in the surgery, Dr. signed it and they posted on.

you mean in Scotland they do not pay for prescriptions at all??
 
I completed my form on 13th April, and I have still not received my exemption certificate. I rang NHS Business last week and they had no record of me, so I've had to complete another form.

I've found that as soon as I ask the Chemist for a refund form, they give me the prescription free anyway.

Yep,
England is the only country that rips the patients off, Wales, Scotland & NI give them free.
I wonder if the small income from those who pay covers the cost of enforcing collection, given the cost for a PPC is £29.10 for a three-month certificate and £104.00 for a 12-month certificate
 

Paracetamol prescriptions cost NHS England 80 million a year and NHS Wales 50 million a year. Paracetamol costs about 18p a packet in the supermarket. Who's ripping who off?? Sue xx
 
Only prescriptions relating to diabetes will be free in England. My card took nearly a month to arrive.

If you are a diabetic in England all prescriptions are free not just diabetic related ones
