Have just been reading the comments about BG test strips 'availability' from surgeries as and when required. My reason for remarking on this is, it appears since the change in government that prescriptions for anything to do with cholesterol, BP or BG (as I can only comment on these) are restricted now. Previously I could get repeat prescription for all the tabs together (even when one wasn't quite as low as the rest) now, they can only be repeated if they have virtually run out.
It feels like I am 'at the surgery' all the time, another thought is, doesn't the GP's have better things to do with their time, logging in and out of a patients notes may be 3 times, when once a month would do, what about all the extra pieces of paper ie prescriptions printed. Who's wasting resources now!
May be to get the BP and the BG under control, in preference to pills and potions an idea - Instruction in good dietary requirements and free regular gym classes on prescription for a set period of time to get back on track. Accepting that this would probably be mostly those who are said to be borderline diabetic (those teetering on the edge of non diabetic) some given pills regardless. Motivation - you'd not be gyming on your own, would feel better, fitter and hopefully happier! My reasons, can't afford gym and walking on ones own is difficult to get motivated about and can be downright dangerous these days (though it doesn't stop me going).

Why not ask your GP to synchronise your scripts? I have nine different sets of medication, and if they all had different due dates I'd be for ever renewing them. As it is, my surgery has synchronised them so they all run out at the same time; moreover they issue scripts for two months at a time, and the local pharmacy operate a phone-in re-ordering system, so all I have to do every two months is phone them and tell them what I need, then pick up the drugs a few days later, all in one go.

If your GP is reluctant to do this, ask them why... it will cut down on their administration hugely, especially if they do it for all their patients. And if your usual pharmacy doesn't offer a phone-in serv ice, go somewhere else! I'm sure there will be one in your locality that offers such a service (unless, of course, its just your GP's surgery that's the "dinosaur" here, and won't sign up to it!)

I am on medication for my diabetes and also my thyroid. I feel like I am always putting scripts in too
I believe that a certain number of days has to pass before a new script can be issued. I recently had a review on my scripts. I get my diabetes meds on a monthly basis and my thyroid meds were on a 2 and 3 months basis (2 different strengths). After my yearly meds reviews I was put down to a months supply  I have recently been for a 6 monthly review for my diabetes and I asked the nurse could I put on 2 monthly supply of meds for my thyroid. She has put a request into the GP.
You can referred to a local gym and get reduced membership costs if you fall within certain categories.
One of the categories is being diabetic, another is being overweight and over 30 BMI. Ask at your surgery for a referral.

Thanks for the suggestion Marvin.
It is good that you are able to get all your prescription together, would be a nightmare for you otherwise. I had previously tried to get prescriptions synchronised and was getting repeats that allowed me to get all tabs together, that changed recently to getting only what is nearly run out.
I will have to have words next check-up find out reason, could be same as Cococolas surgery.
Thank you Cococola for the information regarding the gym too, will have to look into that, I walk quite a bit but weight remains quite static, been same for some yrs.
