just sat here thinkin as you do... saw dsn today and we were talking about pumps and how babies/young children now a days get put on them (my area anyway)...

anyways as i said i was thinking (very dangerous i know) BUT

I was told that there was a SLIGHTLY higher risk of my babies having t1 diabetes as I am t1 but does anyone know if this is actually the case and what the chances are?
 
I had heard that the risk is around 5% for a T1 mum and 8% if the dad is T1. I've just googled and found this link:

which suggests 6% chance of a T1 dad passing it on and 4% of a T1 mum who is gives birth under 25 or 1% if the mum is over 25 although the risk doubles if the parent was diagnosed before they were 11.

I have a young son, and this is something I'm worried about, but I keep telling myself that it is still a fairly small risk.
 

That's very interesting, thanks for the information! To be fair, looking at these numbers it IS a very small chance and personally I'm not too worried about it.

One thing that strikes me, how come the chance suddenly becomes only 1% for mums over 25? What changes physically that causes this?
 
I'm not worried about it, just curious if it happens then it happens, although i think im lucky as i don't remember life when i wasnt diabetic and I grew up OK (although i DID rebel quite a lot but over that now).

I found the sudden drop to 1% rather amusing, id love to know how that's worked out
