Hi Folks i am looking for some advice. I have been moved into a small corner of a crowded office with a server cab above my head, the heat gets to me and affects my levels in fact i've had to go home a lot since my boss moved me into this corner. I've emailed him and asked him to move me but he just ignores it. Its getting me down. If i'm off ill for more than 3 dyas im on SSP other staff arent. I've worked here for 10 years never hid my diabetes and i amm now registered SSI. I was hoping that if anyone had any advice how to aproach this. My boss can be unfair sometimes and because i look ok on the outside (damage all done inside) people seem to think i am taking the p*ss :-(

Certainly I would keep a detailed diary of events - the move, the temperature, your levels, emails and conversations - in case you need the evidence in the future. Can you speak to your boss rather than just emailing him? I would hope that he would prefer you to be at work and productive rather than off sick. Can you get support from your GP (letter?) that might get you moved to a more suitable location?

I can appreciate these rack mounted servers can push out some heat.. They can also be a bit noisy too, which tends to warrant them installed in another room or vented closet space??

Is part of your job description to handle customer enquiries by phone? You could argue the noise a distraction to both you & potential customers..
How about trying a cold air blower at your station to counteract the temperature rise?

Another thought occurred to me after googling SSI.. Do you have a disability with mobility? Like walking?
It could also be argued on grounds of "fire safety" that you work station should be closer to an exit?

Take it up with the Personal Dept, your Trade Union or failing that ask the Citizens Advice for their input. It seems really unfair that you've pointed out it is effecting your health and your manager ignores your requests.
 
Hi folks thank youf or the replies.. We dont have an HR department, small business, 14 employees and the boss can be accomodating sometimes but i have to say because i make an effort to look ok (the damage is on the inside) I get the feeling no one believes me. I used to share an office with my boss now i am jammed in a corner with 4 other staff, facing the wall with a server cab just under the ceiling.. If it came down i'd be suing them.. Not 100% sure how to say anything as one thing i can do is get upset, but thank you for your advice so far, Amanda x
