Husband recently been complaining of thirst and that the water is not cold enough. Never used to be thirsty. This time he tested his BG and was horrified - it was 8.1... is normally always in the 6s and 7s. He hadn't eaten for 4 hours, only had 1 cup of tea with sweetener, 2 hours previously. Was diagnosed in 2009 and has been meds-free and diet controlled since then. He is panicking like all hell here that he's going downhill and will be put on meds tomorrow lol. Any ideas as to what is going on please, O wise ones?
We've had a lot of stress lately with our adult kids, plus he has been cheating on his diet a wee bit - having a scone and jam on days out to the seaside. Would that be enough to cause the diabetes to go haywire? Although 8.1 is not terrible, it's def a lot higher than his usual. So if I crack down on the diet again and we stick to low carb then see how things go? He doesn't listen to me though, he listens to you lot lol so if you say it then he'll do it!

I would do some more systematic testing before you leap to any conclusions.
Just for a few days. It will allow you to build up a picture of what is going on, and where the issues lie.
Test before he eats, and then 2 hours later.
Also on waking.
And test with different meals and different foods.
