Hi all! I normally have excellent bgl's with insulin and v low carb diet. Had a crazy weekend with multiple family celebrations etc etc that resulted in some v poor readings (highs). Since the weekend my bgl's haven't settled properly in spite of diet being 90% back to normal. Is this normal for a few days or should I see my gp?

Hi there, what levels are you having? It's difficult to say whether you should go to the Doctor as there could be other things at work but I know (for me), if I change my routine over a day or two, ie I don't include a run or I have a couple of higher carb meals, then yes, my levels do go higher for at least the following day or two. Usually only by a point or two so that's why I ask about yours, how much of a blow out was it and did you alter your insulin to combat it? My levels change on the days I am at work also so anything outside of your normal routine will change your levels for good or bad. x
Depends on what insulin you're on, at a guess you're just taking a basal insulin (slow acting), if you're also taking a bolus (fast acting) insulin then really you should be able to administer a correction dose which would bring you back down to normal range within an hour or 2.
Thanks Sam. I think I'm ok. Just had a quiet evening and a very sensible day..things seem to be settling! It was just evening after evening..daughter's Formal evening, birthday, date night etc etc...soo difficult to navigate, especially when I love to party like everyone else!! Thank you.

Hi. I'm on both insulins but am very new to it all and very hesitant at the possibility of overcorrecting..but ending up way too high temporarily. I'm LADA, and at the moment only estimating (with professional guidance) as I'm still producing some insulin. I did a modest correction dose (my usual dose is only 1.5-3.5 but v active and v low carb). As soon as I veer off, it goes seriously haywire. This evening it seems to have settled back down thankfully.
