Problems using Bydureon ..

I have been using Bydureon for three months as well as my ususal tablet medication.

Immediately before starting on Bydureon, my Hba thingy was 7.5. I was told to do another Hba after the first month as that was when my regular three month Hba was due. My result was 8.9. I was not happy. My latest Hba in December was 8.2 and I am still not happy as it was only 7.5 before the Bydureon. I think that three months is enough time [twelve injections] for Bydureon to take effect. I do keep to a sensible diet and do not smoke or drink.

Last week I got in touch with my specialist diabetes nurse and gave her the following information. Since taking Bydureon I have continually experienced most of the side effects. That is sickness, flatulence, burping, continual sleeping, bad breath, foul taste in the mouth, lethargy and worst of all acidity. All these to a rather unpleasant degree.

As I already have Omeprazole for an ulcer the acidity was of some concern. I was feeling the same symptoms of a 'leaking' ulcer that I experienced some fifteen years ago. That is, a lot of reflux and pain in my stomach. The other side effects were such that It was not possible to be in company for obvious reasons.

As a result, I have been told to stop the Bydureon for four weeks. I have been Bydureon free for omly four days and already I feel much improved. I don't think that I shall go back to it after the four weeks.

I would be interested to hear other peoples views of their Bydureon experiences.
 
Sorry to see it's been treating you roughly.
I too started around 3 months ago and had my first lot of blood tests today.
To be perfectly honest, the control is better - I still have readings of 10 - 14 throughout the day, but I don't get as many hypo's which I am very greatful for.

For the past few years (since 2008) I have been producing a nasty foul eggy smelling belch. I have just ended a treatment of 7 day's antibiotic which has cleared the problem up. I have had barium meals and enemas to see whats been going on but they drew a blank.
I have also had colonic hydration which made me feel great. I actually lost over a stone in poo and waste product that has been inside of me for 50 years. I kid you not! £60 well spent.

Agree that Bydureon is not for you. I've only had one injection so far and hope I don't get the symptons you mentioned.

were you started on byetta before bydureon??

another question does byetta or byduron give you the RUNs like Metformin???

No I was on tablets - Metformin, Gliclazide and Sitagliptin. Not been working so they dropped the sitagliptin, reduced the gliclazide and put me on Bydureon. Only just had my second injection.

One of the side effects of Bydureon could be diarrhea though I believe it eventually passes after a few weeks.

Haven't heard of Byetta!

If Metformin is giving you the runs then see your GP to put you on the slow release version. That's what I did and the runs stopped.
 
My thanks to those of you who took a look at my 'Bydureon' problems. I have now been 'Bydureon' free for four weeks. All of the dreadful side effects have gone and I am feeling much better as a result.

My bood sugars have increased from a daily average of +/- 7.0 in the morning and +/-10.0 in the evening to +/- 8.5 in the morning and 11.0 in the evening. I am currently awaiting a call from my diabetes nurse to find out which might be the best way forward. I shall inform you all after that.

I should add that just because I have had problems with 'Bydureon' that it should stop any one else using it. I feel that some of my other stomach problems may well have been instumental in my having the problems that I had.
 
Thanks for the update and glad you're feeling better.

I've had to stop Bydureon due to risk of pancreatitus.

My diabetes nurse is putting me on daily insulin on monday which is disappointing as I was into the idea of weekly injections.

Let us know what they do for you next.

I recently had my first HbA1c since starting Bydureon and it is the same as it was before I started which is 8.5
So, I am now taking daily injections of Victoza, which, up until last week, has treated me well with very little in the way of side effects.
BUT...last Wednesday I was told to increase the dose from 0.6mg to 1.2mg. I was ill for 12 hours, very ill.
So I am now back down to the original dose.
 
I've been on Bydureon for a couple of months now. I was sold it on the understanding that it was an appetite suppressor which would help me lose weight.
The control of my sugars is no better than it was. The only effect I noticed after the first few weeks was some unsightly lumps at the injection sights which take weeks to disappear. These were also extremely itchy for the first 3 weeks. The injections are fussy and more painful than I expected, but by no means unbearable.
The appetite suppressor seems to have kicked in now and I rarely fancy or finish a main meal. I seem to be putting more into my mouth between meals though, not through hunger but to take away the awful taste. For the last few days I have had terrible sulphur burps and a really grumbly stomach. I also seem to be up in the night for the loo.
I also suffered on Metformin before changing to slow release.

I'll give it another couple of weeks, but the weight loss better be impressive or its back to Glimiperide.
 
 
I didn’t realize what was making feel so terrible constantly. I even considered it might be hormonal due to my age. I became very tired and sleepy, it was hard to do my job. It really sneaks up on you. Now my stomach is horrible on and off. Sulphur burps, abdominal cramping, and nausea. This is after one month of stopping the medication. It isn’t worth it. I was sick the entire week of vacation because of this. I waited the whole year to take vacation and it was ruined. I too noticed that only a few short days after stopping, I felt normal again. I still experience stomach issues from this. I took it over a year. I feel so stupid now.

I'm sorry you've had souch a rough time with your medication and hope the remaining issues will clear up soon!

You replied to a 10 year old post so I think the member who posted it won't see it.
No problem, but if you'd like some more responses on your experiences with bydurion you might want to start a new thread on it.
