Does anyone else have a partner who does not understand about the affects of diabetes on the body. I was diagnosed with type 2 in October . He says with a proper diet ( which I do- I have been using the hairy bikers recipes for a couple of years and watching what I eat ) I should be alright . He cannot understand why I have changed to wholemeal / brown pasta etc to cook with and I watch even more what I eat and drink. I now feel the cold like I have never felt before and with this I ask to put the heating on and now I get you always feel the cold. It seems like a constant battle. We do speak about any tests I do but it's the comments I get really hurt and yes I have told him this. Sorry for rambling .

It sounds to me that your hubby may be trying to cope with your diagnosis by denial. Have you been given any information paperwork that he could read through? Or else direct him to the mIn page of this site or any of the reputable ones for an overview? Inform, then talk. Tell him how you feel about it , and hopefully the two of you can discuss it.

Oh and that advice, I'm not going in to it as a read around the site will give you more than enough information, but the NHS dietary advice for diabetics is not the best .

As for the cold, well, it is February, and it tends to be a wee bit parky at this time of year !

Yes, do have a read around the site to see what others are saying, doing and eating. It's YOUR diabetes and you have the right to manage it as you see fit, so there may have to be a few firms words spoken over the dinner table

Could be that he's read some scare stories about all the complications and is worried about the future. If you use your local library there might be some books there about diabetes that you could get out and leave lying around. Try and be patient with him and he will maybe come around in time. It's your health and you should manage it in a way that's comfortable for you
