It's a common theme to be told this, accounts of people being told the same all over this forum.
They love to push their Eat Well plate to diabetics. I won't go on a rant, but carbohydrates make diabetes worse and Eat Well encourages people to eat 150g of carbohydrate per day or more. To steal an analogy I saw someone use on here - if someone is a celiac and a doctor told them to keep eating lots of gluten, would that seem right to you?
Medication is always an option and it shouldn't be dismissed in all cases, but it's worth at least exploring all the options available to you. If they're not for you, at least you're making an informed decision.
You say you've accepted you're a T2, but have you been diagnosed as such officially. What was your hba1c result?
Keep up the good work, looks like you're doing great.
