Protein

Hi guys, just had a call from my GP surgery saying I need to go in for some pills as I have protein in my urine. Now, my last hba1c was 2 weeks ago and I haven't had the actual paperwork yet but I have had an appt with my DN team and nothing was mentioned about there being any issues with anything? I may be wrong, but wouldn't they have mentioned something if my protein levels were up?

Tightests BG control ever since I've been on a pump for 4 months, barely any BG readings over 10 and feel in tip top health. No protein issues ever before, so what's happened?! Has my 'luck' run out? Can protein problems be delayed? ie: I've had the problems for a while but they are only showing up on tests now?

thanks Nigel, I am currently very anti my GP since me recent test strip episode but now I am just confused as my DN's didn't mention it and I trust them?! confused.com.......I guess it will help to know the actual levels of the protein and how much it has gone up from the last test (which was ok).

Agreed! just called my Doc and he said my test results were fab but it was the protein in my urine sample which caused the concern, he explained about the 'valves' opening wider and allowing the protein through (explanation aimed at a dummy like me I think!) and that my kidneys are fine, etc, etc.

Phew! thanks for your comments guys feel better with the prescription reasons explained and feel less like slapping the receptionst who called me now for being so insensitive :mrgreen:

**update** - finally got a call back from my DN (she had been away!) and she was intrigued as to why my GP had dished out the drugs without doing further urine tests. She said that whilst it could be that I do need the Ramipril it could also be that I had an infection at the time of the urine sample or that I had eaten a lot of meat before testing! As I have had no problems with protein in the past, she wants to double check. So, she has sent me 3 test labels with instructions to obtain x3 more samples for analysis before she makes her diagnosis. Now I wonder, shouldn't the GP have done that before dishing out the pills?! The very same GP I might add who restricted my test strip supply as I was using 'far too many'?! the mind boggles........ 8)

thanks Nigel, my DN is a pretty good sort, although she goes away far too often for my liking, I emailed her this morning to thank her for sending the labels so quickly and got an out of office reply, again! :lol: I'm hoping she is on a course or something and not constant holiday as I will start to get jealous

Anyway, fingers crossed for the results of these tests, although I do already have the script for the pills so I'm poised and ready, whatever the results

Latest news for anyone who is interested, just had test results from the follow up urine samples I provided and guess what? No protein in sight, no tablets required, business as usual Moral of this story? Always get a second opinion :lol:
