Pump update - not good

Hia all, just to let you know that things didn't go too well last Sunday. Feelings a bit shivery all day and BSs up at around 10/11 all morning. Tried upping my basal to 110% on my pump an doing corrections but they didn't work. Anyway by 6pm I felt really unwell took a BS Reading and it was 13.7 so thought I'd better check ketones and the were at 2.8!!! Husband zoomed me in 8 miles to out local A&E and 2 hours later I was on a saline and pottasium drip and glucose and insulin drip. Although my blood wasn't ketotic they saw the ketones rise again to 3.3 and sugars up at 18 so they acted fast. I was vomiting as well.

I was discharged on Tuesday late evening and after 2 nights of hourly blood testing in hospital I'm still shattered.

The consultant hasn't offered much clue as to why I had such high ketones as my BSs weren't that high but think I could have an underlying infection or bug.

My first month of pumping has been a bit of a baptism of fire to say the least. The good neWs is that since re-connecting to my pump by BSs have been excellent on the whole - between 4 and 8. The whole experience has scared me though and has dented my confidence yet again

Thanks ebony - keep goings the only way!!! A complete turnaround yesterday and hypos (which I over corrected!!). This leads me to believe that I have had a bug which meant I needed Mrs insulin over the last week or two.
I'm go to have a HBA1C in January - my HBA1Cs have never been over 8.5 so although not great not too bad either. expecting a bit better next time round though. My main reason for gong on a pump was uncontrolled / unpredicatable diabetes with real sudden lows which made me terrified of Hypos. On the whole I have to say the pump keeps me a lot more stable (even if I've been t hospital twice!)

I have to say I am worn out by it all though and a grump to live with at the moment :thumbdown:
