Pump without CGM

I have a question that might sound silly to some, but I am a bit confused and not sure who to ask.

I am type 1 for 3 years now and since first day I have been on Levemir and Novorapid. I have been referred to pump clinic by my diabetes team, and they have told me the hospital will only fund the pump but not CGM. At that time I was so excited about the possibility of getting the pump that I haven't thought about anything else. After doing some research I have seen that CGM is quite pricey and unfortunately, I won't be able to self fund CGM.

Is it possible to have a pump without having to use CGM and only use test strips?

I am aware that having pump is a lot different from being on MDI, and I'm feeling devastated only thinking about having to refuse the pump because I can't fund CGM at the moment.

I am sorry if this topic hasn't been posted in appropriate thread, please let me know if I could find those information anywhere else.

Yes of course, very few of us have a CGM and just rely on test strips.

Oh, that's good news. Can you please tell me how does that work then? How often you test? How many test strips per month you use?

I was thinking that I could probably get freestyle libre for a month or two to see how my sugars are behaving. I will have to look more into Freestyle libre here on the forum before I decide.

Thanks you for your help

I use approx 6 strips a day some times less some times more. If I testing my basal then I would use more. Been pumping since April

Register your interest in the Libre on the the Abbott website.

The pump I use has an integrated bg meter, but with all pumps you can manually input your bg readings and some meters are linked to pumps via Bluetooth, all pumps have a bolus wizard which advises you how much bolus to deliver based on the information you put into the pump settings.

I test on average around 8 times a day, more if I'm doing a basal rate check, I get 200 strips a month although my gp has recently put this up to 300 but I won't be using that many so the repeats will go in less frequent.

I am lucky enough to have the libre as I signed up and I was able to buy them before my holiday I think I waited 3-4 months before I got them. They are fantastic bits of kit to have you still have to do blood tests even though libre say you don't but it is fantastic for instance if you are in the car and want to check blood level (i keep my monitor I my pocket) and one swipe of the arm and u have a reading and they are very accurate if u compare finger prick test. They are vey sticky to so (unless put on wrong) mine stayed on the whole 2 weeks it allows. if u want more info just ask
