Hi everyone! Hope you can help me

I recieved my pump on thursday, getting set up with it on 20th June but I have been looking into it and accessories you can use along side and was hoping for a little advice and info.

The pump I have is the medtronic paradigm veo and I see theres a couple of "accessories" for it, such as a bayer test kit which can interact with the pump with blood results and also a minilink transmitter...

Does anyone actually have these and are they worth it? Im asking mainly about the transmitter thingy that does a test and transmits to the pump as I am hypo unaware and have nocturnal hypos which I need to rely on my husband to sort for me and if I understand correctly this would be able to warn me if my sugars look to be going low (yes I am aware i still need to test to keep it calibrated).

If they are worth it how would I go about getting 1? I'm just asking because i have trawled the web in trying to find info and all i could find was info about the accessories but now how id go about getting them

I think you will find that the transmitter is the part needed for the CGM part of the Veo

But the BG meter Bayer, you DSN should be able to give you one, or Bayer themselves will send you one free of charge, (including a 'puter cable) software etc if you give their customer services a bell, Items such as cases etc for the actual pump again you will need to phone customer services but there will be a charge for these items though..

I would hold back on cases for the actual pump until after you've started on it, as if the rep is there they may have a case or two to give to you or maybe the nurse, also alternitives to the manufacurers cases can often be found, such as mobile phone or compact camera cases (you've just got to be careful with magnetic clasps avoid these) or making your own such as baby socks swen in clothing to make a pocket etc..

Lots of ideas about for different situations and clothing..

When I went on the pump, my DSN asked me if I wanted the Bayer meter that can 'talk' to your pump, but I personally didn't think it was worth it. The Bolus Wizard on the pump is REALLY easy to use and it's just as quick to put in your BG in there than to transmit it with the meter (if not quicker).

About the Minilink Transmitter, it's a continuous glucose monitor. So yes, it will measure your BG continuously (every few minutes) and then transmit the readings to the pump which can then warn you if you are going low. The problem with this is that in my experience it can be really difficult to get funding for the CGM. It's worth discussing the possibility with your DSN though as it sounds like you might really benefit from it suffering from the nighttime hypos. Good luck with it!
