Sorry if this has already been covered. My DSN left my active insulin time at 6 hrs when I went on the pump 2 and a half weeks ago. She is currently off for personal reasons but I speak to the consultant every 3 days and she expressed surprised that it was at 6 hrs! She changed it to 5 hrs (I was a bit nervous about changing it to 4 hrs strait away), is anyone else on 5 hrs or are all your pumps set to 4 hrs???
mine is set at 2hours and then Im considering dropping it to 1hour30minutes if im "high" at 1hour30 after eating I do a correction and disregard the active insulin because I have found little (if any) change in my sugars in the following 30mins if i dont correct
My pump is old, so doesn't have an active time thingy. But, experience shows me that for me, Humalog is active for about 5 hours, perhaps a bit more. It's also quite slow to get going in me, so I have to bolus 30 mins before a meal if I can. My BG peaks around 2 1/2 to 3 hours after my meal, so if my pump was set to a 2 hour active time as above, I'd be all over the place. We're all different, you'll come to know how it works best for you in time.
Thanks all. As you say in the last post we're all different so it's never a case of one size fits all. I've got this feeling that 5hrs is too long so I will adjust to 4rs to see how that goes - I'm on novo rapid by the way. roblem:
