How do i get a pump my diabetes is out of control my nurse said i would still have to inject fast acting insulin even though pump administers it very confused.com
Yes, still inject fast acting which works as basal and bolus. Because the basal is injected continuously throughout the day and can be adjusted every hour that is the best feature. Rather than doing 1/2 injections for basal on mdi.

Do you mean inject separately as well as pump? If so no, the pump uses fast acting insulin which it gives a low level all the time (basal) at meal times you have to tell the pump to give you more depending on amount of carbohydrate you are eating (bolus). You will have to change the pump which uses a needle to insert a plastic tube into you. Most people change the pump every 3 days. You would not need injections as you have them now unless there is an issue with the pump (can't remember the last time I had to do that, I usually just change site if there's a problem.)
Thanks so much not got a lot of confidence in nurse at surgery might ask for referal to diabetes centre as she wa s adamant i would have to inject as well so not only do i need educating i think she does too
