So my account says I don't have diabetes. It could be true I guess? But im just about 99% sure I've got it in some shape or form now. I'll have the story after the question. I don't wanna put the cart before the horse here.

I haven't gone in to the doc yet. I assume it's gonna really suck to do that. But im not completely stupid. I've nearly cut all carbs, and sugar. I say almost because I still eat a small amount of blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, and a few others. Again maybe like 1 or 2 of each in a day. I'm mostly eating fish. I've been swapping my diet to fish and veggies. The berries were just to help me get off of anything processed I really liked sugar. I'm an ice cream fiend if I let myself.

So here's the thing. I'm getting more of everything people say you need. All the vitamins, protein, ext that people say are good for you. But I don't feel full. At all. I can throw down like a pound of veggies and two stakes and be hungry. I'm not by any means big. I'm like 165 6' tall. This never used to happen. I would eat a bowl of cereal and be fine for hours. But it's not happening now. Honestly im scared. I know a quick doc visit will fix this I'll get answers but there's a need to push it off.

A lot of my family is diabetic. I knew it was coming. I've accepted a long time ago that I was going to get it. But no one mentioned getting so hungry that you could eat a house of food in a day! Dang it.

Quick story: I have had a few "scares" things that felt like what diabetes sounds like. A burning feeling in my toes just after eating something filled with sugar. Being a bit light headed after eating. Drinking a lot of water out of no where after eating because im super thirsty. It all ended when a few weeks ago while nearing the end of my vacation. I sat down having finished my cereal for the night, and in what felt like moments my legs went ice cold no mater what I tried to do to heat them up. So I thought "oh maybe it's diabetes, I think this was low blood sugar or something like that." Following that train of thought I ate another bowl of the chex. When I came back to my room, I started getting a tingling turned to burning feeling that went up my feet into my lower legs a good ways. I was absolutely terrified. I wanted to call my dad and ask what the heck to do but it was 3am. So I looked it up. People said to walk around get my heart rate up. So I got up out of my chair and I thought I'd pass out. (I already have some blood pressure issues that make going from laying to sitting to standing difficult if it wants to act up that day. So it wasn't only the sugar I think.) My legs and arms didn't like me for a bit there. But it sure as **** scared me into changing my diet asap. I went out that next day and completely swapped every meal I was eating. I called my dad and talked about it. He added my grandma to the call and they helped me make a quick and dirty meal plan. (nothing that turns to sugar, and meat/veggies) im not sure how good it is. I know I need to go in. I just dont wanna hear beer with the boys, all the sweets I fricken love, and my easy going life are gone. I know I can buy the tester and check at home too. I'm just avoiding it for a bit. I don't know what im doing. I'm not gonna outsmart anyone on a topic I've intentionally avoided and I know that. But I dont want to nose dive in. Thats why im starting here. I'm hungry and it's not going away.

Okay, so it’s a great start that you’ve improved your diet. Diabetic or not, it’s good idea.

But, until you get a blood test done, that’s where my advice ends I’m afraid. It’s no good to give advice when you don’t have any idea what’s going on or even know if you are diabetic as that could do more harm than good.

Please see a doctor, get some bloods done and if you are diabetic, we can offer some more sound advice.

Anything else is just guesswork.

Go to the doctor. It might be nothing, it might be something completely different.

Go to the doctor. If it is diabetes, I can tell you that I put my head in the sand for years before I finally went and got tested. And it did loads of damage in the meantime.

Go to the doctor. Worse case scenario you can carry on as you are. But at least you'll know, and maybe have some meds to help.

I’ll echo the “go to the dr” call. All it will involve to check for diabetes is a blood test.

How long again did you make this swap? If you’ve just ditched the carbs it takes a while to readjust. Have you increased fats at all to compensate ? If not you probably simply aren’t getting enough fuel. Add more water. Carbs hold water, without carbs you lose more water. During the adjustment you need to take more water on board to compensate. And electrolytes.

Go to the doctor, but if you've been eating low carb for too long, the Hba1c will be inaccurate. Make sure they are aware of this, and that potentially you will show a lower Hba1c. I was diagnosed prediabetic shortly after finishing strict keto for 4 months. I now know that i was almost certainly fully diabetic for some time prior to that diagnosis.

It’s not that it’s in accurate. It’s that it reflects the last 3 months rather than how life was prior to this. It’s still real. It’s still accurate. Do you consider your hba1c inaccurate because of your diet? I don’t.

I think what you are getting at it that it might not result in a diabetes diagnosis that had the test been done under the old eating style then it would have, and you won’t know how bad it had previously got earlier. But then that’s true of anyone who decides to overhaul their life style without getting tested first. The only downsides I can see are if that if you go back to the old ways then the levels will go back up and you’ll get diagnosed then, and you won’t get the retinopathy, foot and regular hba1c. Nothing to stop you asking for another test in a year the way they would a prediabetic

When i say inaccurate, i mean not a true reflection of Avid writers real state regarding diabetes. The danger is being fobbed off as not diabetic or prediabetic, and being ignored.

Are you losing weight? If so, how fast?

It really is important you get checked out. Even if it transpires you don't have diabetes (and that would be a good thing), you will know and you can stop worrying about that particular topic.

Thing is, often when folks trim back on the carbs they find they can be undereating, so can be very hungry. Some find adding a bit of fat to meals can help resolve the hunger pangs, but it IS important you get checked out.

It was late so I so I went to bed. But no I haven't lost any weight. Still sitting at 163. Maybe I got the ratio wrong though. I'll double check when I go to the doctor.

I have to get to work so im sorry I can't reply to everyone you all have been very sweet when I came in here like a ****.

Thank you guys for the push. It didn't hit me how serious it was. I think I needed that. I have been eating foods with more fat in them than I normally eat to help compensate. I work a very physical job so im still working it off. I really hope I don't have it. But an entire side of my family line has it going back a ways. The other one gets it on and off. That's why I was so sure of the judgement. I'm sorry if it came off rude. I should have been more respectful of such a ****** situation. I was tired and panicked.

We’ve all been there for various reasons or another. Worry and anxiety can cause us to overreact at times and that’s okay.

But, it seems the worry and angst stems from the uncertainty of why you feel the way you do - so in seeing a doctor, at least one way or another, the uncertainty of whether there is a health cause behind your symptoms will be gone.

Then you can be armed with the knowledge of your health and work towards managing it.
