I'll look it up and see what can be done(to it)Talking meter indeed...it's incredibly basic unfortunately...otherwise I reckon you could have a real laugh with that...especially if it told you off for a bad reading or praised a good one. You're welcome to it...its called a SuperCheck 2

Just looked at the online manual for it ..cannot turn off sound! How about stuffing some bread in it's speaker :Ah that is one of the few that they make for the visually impaired . I expect that that was the only one left in the cupboard at your surgeryit does tend to bellow out the readings, somewhat ! Sadly, I don't think it can be turned off, because of its original purpose.
It sounds like you have been given a right run around, I so hope you do get a referral to the specialist clinic , I think it is an essential weapon in every Type 1's s armoury these days
Good luck at your appointment !

If cost isn't a worry then there are some very sophisticated meters out there that measure ketones etc as wellI think it's a must really...after a discussion on another thread yesterday, it seems I'm missing out on all the latest gadgetry by going through my doctors and missing out on specialist advice...time to take control me thinks.

Nova Max do a combined blood and ketone testing meter...but you have to get two different types of strips.I don't mind spending a bit of money if I can get a half decent meter...aside from my 'talking meter' all my others are incredibly basic, but I'm hearing that there are meters available now that can do all number of things. I am a little obsessive when it comes to gadgetry and think these could perhaps put the fun (?) back into testing. Do you have any examples of meters that can measure ketones? This would be a useful tool as I am now following a low carb diet.
