Hi all, over the last week too 10 days, my eyesight has deteriorated to the extent I can't read a book, newspaper, or see a football on the telly. I'm a second year T2. Had a bit of a relapse over Christmas, and Blood test have swung between 6.5 and 12.
Question is this a typical symptom, and does it get better, or am I on a slippery slope to blindness????
Hi Algy and welcome to the forum. I am no expert but I think it is quite common to have blurred vision and yes it does get better when your bs is normal as far as I know but take a look around the forum site and I am sure someone will be able to help you.
High bg can make the lens of the eyes swell which in turn can lead to blurred vision, however it could well be something else so I would strongly suggest that you get your eyes examined.
Firstly welcome to the diabetes Forum.
Anything that effects the eyes need to be investigated as to the cause of the problem, especialyy when changes occur in such a short time period of a week.
There may well be a simple reason why this has occurred, but I would suggest that you make it a priority to get to your local hospital's eye clinic or emergency department so that they can resolve the cause.
Elevated levels of Glucose within the bloodstream do indeed cause the lens in the eye to have difficulty in focusing, but to be on the safe side please get yourself to the hospital ASAP.
Went to hospital today. Bad news is my Optic Nerve has been damaged by a failure in blood supply, and, unfortunately it cannot be repaired, So vision loss is permanante. Have to go back to hospital tomorrow to have necked scanned in case any vascular blockages are present.
What I really need to know mow is where can I find a good strong magnifying glass?
Again, many thanks for helping, and kind regards, Algy1.
