Hi,

just wondering for those who use insulin, what ratio's do people use?

I'm currently on 3:1 breakfast and tea, then 2:1 at dinner.

But over the past few days my Bg's haven't been too good after using these so tomorrow i'm increasing breakfast by 1/2, then the next day dinner by 1/2, then the next tea by 1/2. (taking it slow as dont want a build up of insulin)

I'm wondering wether it's because the weather hasn't been too good but before the hot weather a 3:1 for all meals was working perfectly...

Just wondering if anyone is using a higher ratio than 3:1?

Does anyone think that if you are needing a higher ratio than 3:1 you should look into changing insulins?

I'm a healthy weight for my height and my Background insulin is still working okay as i set alarms to wake up last night at 2am and 4am and my results were..

9pm - 6.7
2am - 6.4
4am - 7.2
9am - 6.9 .... so no serious goings on there so it must be my ratio's right?

Starting to get a bit   :?: about it as it was working really well the past 3 months and now i'm struggling to keep below 10 all day and lucky if i get one reading below 7 without correcting at every meal. it usually gets there by night but after breakfast it all goes to pot again!!! argh...

any advice clues help?

spanks!

you dont say what basal amount you take or when you take it or even if you split it!

your basal might be ok in the early hours but what is it like for the daytime? has it run out? if so your bolus shots will be fighting your meals and your liver output at the same time.
i would suggest you look at testing your basal level during the day.

i have read gary scheiner 'think like a pancreas' and john walsh's 'using insulin' both very good books that explain in depth how to test and adjust insulin to get the best results.

have a look , you might be surprised.
please bear in mind i am a lowly t2 on b/b so not fully familiar with the trials and tribulations of t1!

I do split my doeses of lantus, i'm currently on 12 in the mornign and 10 at night.

to be honest as my inbetween meal times BG readings are so up and down if i tested my basal i would be leaving my BG's high and results wouldnt be reliable because i'm having to correct my BG's alot whilst also changing my ratios. so testing at night time seems to be the only way.

I follow DAFNE rules, well not exectly rules if you know what i mean, and i'm only a few months in so i'd rather not mix my poor little head up with other ideas if that makes sense?

The whole point of my post was if anyone was on a higher ratio than 3:1 as i feel if i need to go higher i should be looking at other alternatives rather than pumping myself with **** loads of insulin if there may be another option.
