Hi

Can you help? Just recently been diagnosed with Diabetes type 2 have cut out all sweets crisps etc. Trying to increase my acivity and i have already lost about 8IBs so heading in the right direction. I wanted to know if anyone has had certain symptons for example blurred vision, Lack of concentration, memory problems, fatigue, wierd tingling on skin odd times like spiders crawling, lose train of thought and could just sit and stare into space, problems listening to people and taking what they have said and remembering. Is this a normal sign of my body getting better and has anyone else had these symptons and did it get better. I am due to see the nurse but i spoke about it a little last time and she didn't say it was normal. I am doing my best with diet and am still learning can anyone shed any light on this any information would be great kindest regards xxxxxxxxx

YES!!!!

I had all of those symptons on and off for years. Not so much this past couple of months though since my bloods are under control.

I'm type 1 but that sounds like how I feel when my levels are running high. Are you testing much?

All of those ailments and more well I had them all. Rationalised that they were age or stress related. Then got the D diagnosis went low carb and within days my body started to heal itself. Now not that long later I still have db but my body is well. I manage my illness by not poisoning myself with sugar that comes from carbs. It works. Go for it.

Sounds like me, too!

Being 49, and had hysterectomy 13 years ago, assumed my body's decline was all due to homones...

The spider-crawling thing could be formication (careful how you spell/pronounce that word!) - I've had it for years, mainly in the summer - GP said it was linked to hayfever (which I don't get) and prescribed Clarityn tablets which I take from April to September - still itch a bit, but much less than before. She also suggested I stop colouring my hair, as the dye could be making the itching worse.

So now on top of everything else I seem to notice more grey every time I get my hair cut

Just a thought - should Diabetics take Clarityn?? Whoops - better check!

Hmm... Clarityn contains lactose, but not stated as unsuitable for Diabetics... anyone else know about this?

Hello and welcome Willow-Hill

It takes time to get rid of all these oddities but they do go eventually with good BG control. I am afraid that your nurse is unlikely to know about all these symptoms unless she has diabetes and has experienced them herself. Another reason why this Forum is invaluable! 8)

I had the same brain fog when sugars were high pre diagnosis - I was blissfully unaware nodding off all the time, my wife thought I had some kind of brain deteriation and was so worried, then the need to pee day and night with the blurred vision started - she said go to docs I think you have late onset diabetes.
I was confirmed as type 2 and within a month all symptoms had gone and I have not felt as well for years.
Good luck .

Thanks for all your feedback I feel better that I am not going silly and others have had similiar symptons. I haven't checked my blood levels as I wasn't given anything to test them with. Should I buy one myself?

Being new to Diabetes i am just getting used to changing my food habits and i want to lose some more weight etc.

Some days i feel normal for a few seconds then i am back to feeling spaced out again so hopefully its getting better each day. I will try and cut down on carbs i will have to have a look at a low carb diet and get some ideas

I will be back its a great site so glad i came across this thanks all

I can relate to all of those sympoms. It does go away when you get your BG under control, though.

If you dont mind, I will watch this thread with bated breath, you could have been describing me.
I have put these symptoms down to menopause/statins/sleeplessness/just general crazyness.

SNAP (without the menopause)..LOL
Crofty, x

Definitely worth getting yourself a meter. Then you can test to find out how different meals affect you and how much carbs you can get away with.

The spider crawling feeling sounds like it could be neuropathy. There's a chance it'll improve once you get your levels under control.

As for the clarytin, different antihistamines affect people differently. Some people find it affects their blood sugars. I take loratadine every day and it doesn't seem to affect me that way. If one antihistamine gives you problems, just try another one, there are loads
