blood sugars still all over the place yesterday my blood sugars were 8.1, 14.1, 5.7, then 9pm 1.8 got it up to 5.8 then went to bed got up this morning saying hi on my meter 4+ ketones ! im in the process of learning to carb count and have apparently been referred for an insulin pump. im getting really fed up with this now i feel like crying all the time . is there anyone else who is suffering like this ?

Hi Marie,
I'm having wierd all over the place BG results at the moment too, just when I'm starting to think about preconception planning. Normally I'm fine but have had several really unexpected high BGs first thing then bounced up and down all day. I follow DAFNE but it doesn't always seem to work for me (or maybe I don't do it properly!)
I too have been referred for a pump but because I asked, got my first appointment about it on the 22nd so hope I get the answer I want.
Hope things settle for you

Hi Ladies,

marie.T1 - Your not alone don't worry, my sugars we're all over the place when I was on injections, I couldn't get control of them, eventually I succumbed to an insulin pump and although it was very hard at first I couldn't be without it now, i'm so much more better with my sugars. I still have my days of endless crying and frustration though don't worry I think it's normal.

michellem - carb counting is a lot of practice, keep it up you'll find where and what's best for your body, sometimes I do half the amount I need to just because through experience i've learned if I did the full amound i'd go hypo. Do you do it on a 1:1 ratio ie, 1 unit per 10g of carbs? You might find once on a pump this gets easier to control. Hope this helps a little

Hiya Marie,

I started to learn to carb count about March/April this year and am only now starting rto feel like I have cracked it. I have had other medical issues during that time which have probably hindered me slightly and I have been helped by having a 1/2 dose pen and an expert meter which is fantastic as my ratios are so specific and I can alter them by .1. At the moment I have been loosing weight as I have been on too high a dose of thyroxine ( despite questioning this with my GP 6 mnths ago!! ) So I am now having to adjust my insulin ratios again and may need to look at my basal. However I do now feel as though its me in control and alot less anxious. Hope you get some better sugars soon and good luck with the pump

thanks for your replies , i see my consultant on the 19th im really hoping he has got some news for me about the pump ! the problem is i have to go to a different hospital for the pump which is about 35/40 miles away because my hospital doesnt have a pump clinic . i was referred in august and i still havent heard anything . with having high bgs and high levels of ketones i dont want to go dka!!!! i have started the carb counting course with my dietician but ratios have not been set yet.

Getting the ratios set and right will make all the difference as that is what helps to get results. It took me a while as I said other issues were having an impact. I really think that will definately make a big difference and hopefully when you get the pump it should even them out even more. ( My Consultant has said that I am doing ok as A1C is improving, but if I start to struggle with hypos he said the pump option is there! )

Try not to get stressed as that will push sugars up further
