Really need advice

So husband has been type 2 for 12 years and over the last few years his levels have not been good! He’s on metformin, alogliptin, pioglitazone, and a statin but since middle of December he’s had a pain in his right calf (he had been going to the gym) it’s constantly hurting him it’s not hot or swollen went to the gp 2 weeks ago who says it’s a pulled ligament but it’s not getting any easier to the point he’s limping any advice until we get another gp appointment
 
 
I'm really sorry for what your husband is going through. Have you tried natural treatments?

My mom has been on pills for 2 years. Now, she's taking natural methods and is little by little removing her pills (not completely yet).
 
Hi @Dippydolly, Heat has always been regarded as a good remedy for pulled muscles. Add some liniment or the newer anti-inflammatory creams if the doctor agrees.
Any sign of heat and swelling, back to the doctor asap.
It sounds like he needs to confess to his doctor about his 'not so good' diabetes control. He will not be able to use exercise as a partial strategy for a while and he might have been doing exercise also to avoid the inevitable 'showdown' with his GP because he is worried about what might be next in diabetes treatment.
 

Since he is still in pain I suggest you go back to doctor and ask for further investigation, perhaps even images. Doctor should at least try and identify which specific part of calf is painful ( a good doctor should be able to identify most of the anatomy of the lower leg, down to which muscle and tendon). Xrays and ultrasounds would be a minimum for imaging. There are so many things that cause leg pain it is difficult to diagnose them even when a person is right in front of you. But persistence is required sometimes to get action. Oh, by the way, there are no ligaments in the calf, ligaments are found at joints, so not sure about your GP. But if pain has persisted for 2 weeks without improvement then there is something wrong and warrants a review.

Impossible to give any advice other than keep off it. Walking, stretching etc may make it worse, especially if its a tenfon injury. You need a proper diagnosis.
