Really Stupid Quesstion about Exercise!

Lots of comments here to be careful with and the single most important thing to remember is to test before, during and after exercise until you know what levels of intensity of exercise do to your BG levels. Many factors come into play.

Brunneria: "Oh, and one more thing, bursts of exercise (several flights of stairs, brisk climbing a hill, or just dancing round the living room, can significantly drop a blood glucose spike - within a few minutes. " Sudden bursts of exercise can also trigger an increase in BG levels.

Andrew Colvin: "Exercising after eating allows you to directly target any spike in your levels." It depends on the intensity of your exercise. Anaerobic will increase your BG levels. Even medium intensity, depending on your fitness levels, may have little effect so not level out any spikes.

JRW: "The effect of exercise on BG depends mainly on the level of insulin in your body. As a type 1 if I exercise just before I'm about to take my daily basal then I don't really need to fuel the exercise with carbs" Theme developing here - depends on what exercise. It is important to have insulin on board when exercising to utilise the glucose but not too much or a hypo awaits if the exercise is leading to a decreasing BG level. I have found over the years that a vital bit of knowledge to have is whether your BG level is rising or falling before exercise.

sshaw99: "Will strenuous exercise cause glucose to be released from cells as Julifriend says above and have an adverse impact on my BG???" - Yes, it will. Again, through testing before, during and after you will see this and how different levels of intensity effect your BG level. I find that when doing a track session of reps I need to inject insulin at some point to keep my BG levels down.
