Recommended health snacks for diabetics

Almonds - actually stop blood sugar from rising.
Boiled eggs - ultimate good food.
White meat and fish.
Peanut butter (particularly sainsburys own version which is very low in sugar).
Cheese.
Tofu (I get the smoked variety).
Brown rice (I'm not a fan of pasta anyway).
Cous cous.
Lentils.
Edamame beans.
Cannellini beans.
Sunflower seeds.
Rice cakes.
Sugar free carrot cake (whole meal flour).

Re: Recommended health snacks for diabetics

I recommend going to Holland and Barrett because they sell low sugar/no sugar items.

I brought myself a chocolate bar which was no sugar and 17g carbs per bar. They taste like Galaxy chocolate.
I also brought some thin crackers which have no sugar and are very low in carb and extremely tasty. You could put cheese on top of them.
All for good prices too. The chocolate bar was 85p and the crackers were on offer for 86p.

If its just a craving and not real hunger the chances are good that its actually a sign of dehydration. A lot of people are unable to read the body signals correctly and mistake thirst for hunger, try drinking a pint of water, you might be surprised and the pangs may disappear. Of course though, there will always be those times where you absolutely MUST have the last chocolate in the box.....

9bars. They're awesome! About 12g of carbs a bar. Pumpkin seed one is my fave

Have you tried the new Peanut one, even better, pumpkin is now my second favourite.

NAKD bars are also good, the little ones or half a big one are about 15g carbs depending on the variety.

Or oatcakes and PB, 17.5g carb for three

Interesting Netty, I find the 9 bars very sweet, the NAKD bars not so much, apart from the small cashew nut variety, but then I've always loved dried fruit.

This all sounds lovely but what can people with a severe nut allergy use? I also have to avoid strawberries and shellfish.
