red bull

I would see if you can substitute this drink for something else. It is high in sugar, carbohydrate, (28gms) and caffeine and all these ingredients will affect your blood sugars causing them to rise.

Yes. Red Bull is the Devils own drink. I believe Red-Bull contributed to my developing diabetes (could be completely wrong!). But as a 19/20 year old I used to drink PINTS of the stuff. At that time I was nearly 20stone, and used to drink vodka and redbull like it was water. I used to put a can of redbull into a pint glass, then topit up with vodka... Drink like that all night.

Even the sugar free redbull isn't advisable for diabetics as it contains high levels of caffeine. Caffeine is not great for diabetics either...
 
thanks for replying,I seem to have a bit of an addiction to the stuff but will definitely be cutting down as my blood sugar levels arent great :?

Hi Debbie,

That's the whole point - sugar and caffeine are two of the most addictive substances known to man and the makers want you to become addicted to it!
 
I used to love my coffee, the stronger the better. I now drink Carte Noir decaff and It tastes fine to me. I thought it would be a big sacrifice but it's not. I often give it to visitors and don't tell them it is decaff. No one has sussed it yet.
 
What's this about caffeine being bad for us? I am a Diet Coke addict!!!

It has been found that for some diabetics there is a rise in blood sugars when drinking caffeine based drinks.
Try going without it for a couple of days and let us know how you feel.
Headaches, panic attacks, lack of concentration and generally feeling anxious have been reported. I have known of clients with an excessive intake who have had to be hospitalised to wean them off the stuff safely.

Thanks for the info, some days I try and go without my 'Diet Coke Break' but do seem to get headaches without a caffeine hit! I might start weening myself off it by buying the mini cans and just having one of those a day. I didn't realise caffeine could affect blood sugar

Test for yourself, IME I've read about as many papers suggesting caffeine worsens BG as those which say it improves them.
