Crowds of people, my idea of hell would be a huge gathering of any sort!

Heights, scare me to death!
Liars, cheats. poseurs, any kind of violence, thieves and people who take advantage of others.

The way the world is going to hell in a handbasket.

Global warming, the melting ice caps, whaling..I mean what for?!

Cruelty

Having to give up my eat everything philosophy..and I really really dislike consequences.
I was wondering whether red wine really does lower Bg or if it's purely anecdotal. I haven't really had anything significant to drink for a couple of years but have heard that red wine can lower Bg so thought as it was Christmas I would try it and it does seem to have an effect in that my Bg did seem lower.

Anyone else had any experiences with it?

Don't like wine, but, any alcohol can lead to lower than usual levels as the liver is occupied clearing the alcohol rather than outputting sugar in the blood. There would be an initial rise at first depending on sugar content of alcoholic beverage, not sure on wine thigh as I don't drink it. Whatever you drink use caution. Shorts have no spike as such, bit will have a drop later. Stay safe, test regular, and don't become an alcoholic as a way of getting lower levels lol.

Awww dern it, but you are right brett, I had enough troubles before I was diagnosed with the falling asleep all over the place, I don't suppose it would be a good idea to start with the alcohol overly much! Also, not drinking much I suppose a very little would affect me adversely too.

Hi ,this is of interest to me as over xmas I began to feel a little better and so decided to have 3 pints of lager on xmas eve.Well my blood sugars are allways high (ongoing story and struggle at present)and continued to be so but not much higher after having the lager. The next morning my blood sugars were 5.0 ( a figure I have never seen before!) and I felt great - had plenty of energy etc.So I did the same for the next few days and my levels were amazingly low and I felt much better.Knowing this was probably not the way forward I stopped the lager after a few days and my levels shot up to 16 and higher the first day I stopped and stayed high each day and I felt really rough again.Basically I now find myself in a position where if I have a drink my levels are low and I feel fine but if I do not I am back to square one! Has anyone else had this? I know it is not the way to go but feeling so tired and ill for so long without being able to get my levels down it is tempting to just have a drink to get them down and feel better....I hate this diabetes thing!

I don't drink much at all but I do have the occasional glass of red wine, because just one glass doesn't do a thing to me, so it's one of my diabetic friendly treats.
To cut a long story short, yesterday was the last bad day of a really bad year for me... so instead of having one small glass, I had two small glasses to ring the new year in. Went to bed and thanks to a chest infection (which turns out isn't a chest infection but an allergy to my BP meds, but that's another story), I couldn't get to sleep. The coughing was keeping me awake, it was keeping Mr Luceeloo awake, and thanks to paper thin walls, was probably keeping the neighbours awake. So I relegated myself downstairs to the settee. Half an hour of constant coughing, I got really really annoyed and caught sight of the wine bottle. Before I knew it had downed it... didn't bother with a glass, just swigged it straight from the bottle.

I woke up from my drunken slumber at 5.30 and checked my blood sugar. 12.3. Checked it again two hours later, 9.4. I do get a bit dawn phenomena-ish and usually wake up to 7's or 8's. Evidently I won't be using red wine to bring my levels down!

From the little I have picked up, wine is not to bad, esp red wine, there is no carbs in spirits, but beware of the mixers, BUT larger, beer and of course stout (like Guinness) does have varying levels of carbs in and can effect your GL.

Also the advice I have received is, if you do not drink now, dont start just to bring your BG levels down, but they did not say I could not have a drink over the holiday WOO HOO.

I hope this is of some use
