I won't bore you with all the details but I dislike pretty much my whole care team. I have had type one diabetes now for 8 years and I'm 17 and have great control. I'm learning how to drive and obviously dvla needs to hear from a doctor that you are able to drive. But I really don't want to go back to the care team are there any other options????

Thanks!

As a type 1 diabetic, here in the UK and many other parts of the world, it has become a legal requirement to inform the driving licence authority that you are Type 1. Usually a doctors report is required to back up your claim to be able to drive SAFELY in that you have maintained GOOD stable control of your diabetes and haven't gone Hypo within a certain number of weeks.
You need to get DVLA approval here in the UK, not only to legally allow you to drive on our roads, but also you will need to get approval from your vehicle insurer. This is most important as so many insurer's will look at any loophole should you be unfortunate and need to make a claim in the future.
As for getting along with your diabetic team, well in that respect you aren't alone, but changing to another team isn't easily done and sometimes as hard as it is, it becomes easier just to simply agree with them, nod your head at the appropriate time, smile when necessary at them, and do your own thing in the background which you seem to be doing already and which is giving you such good blood glucose control and day to day management.
I'm sorry to say that I don't think there is any alternative as I can readily confirm from my own experience and swimming against the tide will not give you the result that you are hopefully seeking.

Elle, if you don't like your team, you have the right to be referred to a different hospital. Also, your GP can write the letter for you, if your GP has the necessary I formation. But ideally anyway, you should go elsewhere. It's simple. My GP asked me why I wasn't going to my clinic appointments and I just said that I didn't like that department. He offered to refer me to another hospital. I agreed and found a consultant I got on better with. You don't have to beat around the bush. Say so if you don't like them!

I have to say I disagree with just about everything you have said. Not only have you apparently not read the OP's post (they know they need DVLA approval) you have stated you need insurer approval which you absolutely don't. You just inform them you have diabetes. I have never had any issue with Insurance.

As for saying its troublesome to change clinic, It isnt at all. just do some research, figure out where you want to go and ask for a referral from your GP. Not a big deal at all.

Hi Ellie,
It's not compulsory to have a team! My care is via my lovely GP and I have no contact with a team unless I request an apt. I've held a valid driving licence for 37 years with no problems.
As you are learning to drive then DVLA must have your details for the provisional licence. Just fill in the form correctly when licence is due for renewal and name your GP as your care giver if you don't see a team.
As you are so young you do need a positive experience so ask to be moved to the adult clinic and if not happy then ask your GP for a transfer elsewhere. It's very easy to do.
Very good luck with your lessons.
