Hi, I have a very busy job which can also be very labour intensive. The problem is when im at home my BG readings are fine, but while at work i find myself snacking every 2hrs to pick up my levels. I also get hypo symptoms about once a day while at work.
My question is: Is there any negative health reason to avoid multiple lows? I know i could try lowering my basal but then at home i would be fighting to keep my levels down, and as im at home more than i am at work, i thought this made more sense :-S Thanks in advance )
When you are at work gradually cut back on your fast acting insulin until you find the bolus that does not cause hypos. When you are not at work you can resume the bolus that controls your BS at safe levels.
You may also find that you need to reduce your basal slightly for days you are working. But only adjust one insulin at a time. Does that make sense?
I dont take any bolus at work atall. Activity keeps levels naturally low. When i get home i bolus with meal and its all fine and stable again. Just didnt really want to cut back on basal for work hours as then at home, which is where i am more hours per day, my readings may not be the best. So im not concerned about the lows at work as such. Was more concerned about the health ramifications if any for the mild hypos im having on a regular basis. If there is none would prefer to keep my readings at home the best i can, and just carry on eating occasional snacks at work :-S sorry if doesnt make sense I'm not the best at trying to describe things
Oh so could try splitting the dose!? Never done that always just had one nightly injection. Thanks i remember the nurse saying something about that now :-D

Could try splitting dose as said or ask dsn about pumping, that way during work hours could set temp basal rates, and before going home norm basal rate.
