Renovating kitchen tips

I'm in the process of renovating my kitchen. It's currently being stripped out and I need to find my new one. I'm pretty set on using Howdens as they have a fast turnover. As for my worktop, I definitely don't want wood, and have been looking at something called Minerva. It's hard to find much information about it. Does anyone here have it? Any advice on it?
Also, anything you think is so essential or non essential to have in a kitchen before I sort it all out.
