The votes are in, and have been counted, and the results are as follows:

HbA1c – 33 or 5.1% (I was 32 and 5.1% last time, so I’m taking that as stable.)

Lipids – Less encouraging, but as follows:
Total – 8.1
HDL – 2.0
LDL – 5.7
Triglycerides – 0.9
Total/HDL ratio 4.05

I am informed I need to make an appointment to see a Doctor. Round 3 of the cholesterol battle is about to begin.

Unless persuaded by empirical evidence, based on women, I will be staying statin-free.

Yes well done on those results. I would be taking the same stance as you as regards statins if they were my readings.

Thanks Zand.

After my last set of bloods, I had quite a lively, but friendly and adult discussion around it all, with a female GP I have never met, so I think I'll see her as she was pretty sympathetic on the gender bias of the research currently available, my ratios and also my post-diagnosis diabetic status. I think I am content to have a further discussion with her, rather than my usual GP, who told me statins was the way forward, without any real discussion.

I want to be at the heart of managing my health, not passively satisfying someone else's targets, without real scientific back up.

Well done on your Hba1c Andbreath, a little work to do on your cholesterol but I'm sure you'll get there

Well done on those results I would agree, definitely stable.

I don't envy you the forthcoming statins debate, although your lady doctor does seem more sympathetic than mine - also a woman, and not only that but the cardio-vascular specialist GP within the practice. Has your cholesterol risen a lot?

Well done on your HbA1c result. Absolutely fantastic.

Regarding your cholesterol, I recently did a detox on myself using food grade diatomaceous earth. When I did the research on this product, some sites said it reduced peoples cholesterol. You might want to look into it - I haven't found any negative side effects in taking it (only that it can taste chalky, lol)

Have a look at the latest research that basically says tric's 0.9 or below is the only measure you should worry about. All the other measures of total/ratios/... are out of date. @jack412 but a link to a video in a recent thread from an aussie prof talking about this. Very interesting... Go armed withthe info and shame them in their ignorance

Great results ....I fear I could not go that low ....but big congratulations to you ....best wishes kat ...

Always nice to hear good news

Congrats on that a1c!

Why not ask for the test (don't know the name of it) that works out the size of your LDL?

But really, I'm with @jack412 and @Andrew Colvin on this.

Your Trigs are fine, so just say 'no'.

Thanks all. Yes, please @jack412 - if you have a link, I'd be grateful.

Thanks Jack. I'll give that some attention.

I particularly like the lecturer's timeline on out of date cholesterol thinking.

By that reckoning the VAST MAJORITY of uk doctors are about 30 years out of date -especially if they prescribe because of a total cholesterol figure.

Yes I thought that was interesting as well. He also has some pretty impressive data to back it all up. How much of the world is being drugged for no reason?

@AndBreathe those are excellent results. I am not sure if these would affect Bs but a friend of mine lowered her cholesterol by drinking those benecol yoghurt drinks.

That really is an impressive video, @jack412 . Going through my breakdowns, using his findings, my lipids have never been better, on this journey; so improving, not deteriorating.

I've gone from feeling a bit, "Oh, here we go,............... Round 2 aka more frustration", to "I feel good......", singing in my had, obviously.

Everyone. But, everyone, should watch that video, in my view. My Breathe will be watching it when he comes home tomorrow. OK. Maybe he can watch it on Friday.

I managed to do the same with Benecol. My total cholesterol fell quite noticeably. However it was the "good" cholesterol level that went down. The bad stayed the same and I ended up with a worse good to bad ratio.

this guy did some data search on a number of stuff and came up with TG down Hdl up and.... LDL , half went up, half went down 50/50
there also seems to be a common weight loss, ldl of down, then up, then down again
time @6.00 min for the 50/50
time @22.30min for the ldl down, then up, then down again, for weight loss

Thanks Jack - I found that when Googling a while ago, but haven't watched it yet. I'll do that now.
