i rang my surgery for some results from last test, they sent them through the post as they wouldn,t give them over the phone.
HbA1c 14% 130 mmol. cholestral 7.76 mmol/L. HDL 1.73 mmol/L. blood pressure 134/82 mmHg
these mean nothing to me
 
I would say blood pressure and cholesterol are slightly high. I wouldn't worry about these two for now. The one you need to keep working on is the BG's (HbA1c) If you listen to all the good dietary advice you've been given already it will come down nicely, but you need to work at it consistently. Others will be along to explain it better soon, I am sure.
 
Well done Ally for asking for your results. Make sure you keep them in your records for the future, so you can see if you are improving.

The HbA1c test is a sort of average of your blood sugars over the 2 to 3 months prior to the test, and as you probably realise, they are high. This result equates to 19.7 in the measurements shown on our meters. So on average, you were 19.7mmol/l

Total cholesterol is high. It should ideally be under 5, and the NHS prefers diabetics to be under 4.
The HDL is your "good" cholesterol and is normal
Your blood pressure is fine. Diabetics should try to get it to under 140/80, and as you were probably stressed when it was taken, the reading is very good.
 
An HbA1c of 14% is far, far too high. Given the numbers you have reported recently, though, it's not a huge surprise. However, don't panic, you're not the first person to start out here and get down to normal levels.
Total Cholesterol of 7.76 mmol/L is high by most people's reckoning. Expect to be offered statins.
Blood pressure of 134/82 mmHg is not too bad. Generally they want diabetics to be under 130/80. Yours was probably much lower when you left the doctor's - it's called "white coat hypertension", in other words, it's the presence of the medics, which puts your blood pressure up.

It's the blood sugar levels which need to be dealt with, ideally (in my view) by diet, but by meds, if needed. This is essential to your future health and happiness.

I was 140 when I got my A1C and have been stressing out on it. I have not seen one person who was diagnosed at that level on the forum which makes me feel even worse but I have worked on my diet and with help of all the members here I am constantly between 4 and 6 never gone above that as per my meter and I can't wait to have my next A1C in about 2 more months time. My BP is slightly on the higher side but th gp prescribed me statins already and have a test for cholesterol and another fasting in about 20 days time once I am finished with the statins. If you really control the diet for 2 weeks I am sure you will see the results. I wish you all the very best and we are all here to help you.
 
Your BP isn't bad and as said, will probably be lower than that away from anxiety of surgery. They might want it lower if the retinopathy tests show anything up but losing weight would help with lowering it, cutting out salty foods and doing a bit of exercise.Cholesterol is quite high and they may offer statins though it should come down as your BS falls. That is high but you knew that from recent events. Hopefully your dietary changes will help and any meds that the GP sorts out.
 
my gp has put me on a statin, nice to know my bp is ok
i,m determined to get my BS down

Why not post a daily food diary on here so people can advise you

Ally was in hospital last week due to high BS, since when she has been receiving better care from her doctor and nurse, and has taken herself in hand. She now needs support from all quarters. She knows what she has to do, and she has started to do it with some success by using her meter properly and keeping a food diary. Her numbers are dropping and her post meal spikes have been lower than mine up to now!

Keep going Ally, you can do it.
 
why do I get the feeling I'm being chastised?
perhaps ally can expand but I recall ally's gliclazide was increased and she was getting 10-12's. recently had an episode where it blew out and went to hospital. it is now back to the 10-12's. I think ally's BG is better than her A1c suggests and I would guess to be in the 8-9% the way she is going.

Ally has actually been in hospital twice in very recent weeks, also her meter broke and she had to wait for her new one to arrive. Also she wasn't fully understanding things, so her numbers were sky high in the period before her HbA1c. Hopefully her next one will reflect her more recent improvements.
 
it's all good, yes I've been following ally's progress and I agree her 10-12's are better than her A1c suggests,
