My boy is 7, diagnosed T1 4 years ago. Does anyone know when he should have a retinal check. There was a young lad on telly, Kitchen impossible, age 11 I think, blind from detached retina due to diabetes. We have never been offered a check
Thanks
if you are worried and it something to just check on..
ask at your diabetes clinic.can they ref your son to eye check in your local hospital .
or pop in to boots spec savers or vision express .and ask if they can check him i would suggest the local high street as it woukd be more user friendly as hospitals for young ones can be a little daunting
moorfiels saved my sight way back in 1987 still ok odd problems now and then .
good luck
vic
on insulin since 1957 now on a pump
Why is screening not offered to children under 12?
The current guidance is to start screening at 12 because diabetic retinopathy is extremely unusual in children with diabetes who are under the age of 12.
