Sorry to hear about your conditions
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/members/abbdrinkwater.111344/.Before my diagnosis I used to suffer from gout. Never went to the GP about it, as I'm a self-solver,but I learned how to treat it, and keep it away. During that period I sometimes woke up with arthritis-like symptoms in my hands, but most of the time it was swollen toes I suffered from.
Gout is a form of arthritis. Here's why :
"The underlying cause of arthritis, gout and fibromyalgia is an imbalance in the system causing acidosis, which is the basis of most physical disease. In simple terms, this means your pH is out of balance and your body is trying to get back into balance in any way it can."
So, what was my remedy ? Ordinary, everyday baking soda (aka bicarbonate of soda). Available everywhere cheaply.
When treating, I would take a level teaspoon in water up to four times a day.
As a preventative, I take a level teaspoon before bed every night.
The quotation above comes from this website, which also promotes baking soda as a possible remedy

The website which helped me at the time was

which has some interesting information.
Lastly, do you keep clear of fruit juices ? They're a major contributor to acidosis.
