@Winterwatch posted this in another thread.....

This was the response I got from Lidl's customer services. The dream is over.

Re: Availability of High Protein Roll

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding the above item.

Unfortunately this item is not available in our stores at the moment and I am unable to provide a specific date for its return. I am hopeful that this will be available in the future. In the meantime, I have passed your interest in this item to our Buying Department for their information.

Thank you again for contacting us.

Yours sincerely,
For and on behalf of Lidl UK GmbH

That is more or less the same as an email I had from them about a year ago when there was a scare about them being withdrawn. They weren't withdrawn. What happened was Lidl changed the size of them and gave the new size a new reference number. We all breathed a sigh of relief but had to put up with smaller rolls.

I've just emailed asking for clarification and also explaining the reason why they are essential to many of us. Fingers crossed it is all a storm in a teacup.

As mentioned on the other Lidl Protein Roll thread, these rolls are still shown as a current product on their bakery products page

That link is interesting. It shows the weight as 85g. The ones I have been buying for several months are around or over 100g. Maybe they either haven't updated the website since the rolls changed back from small to large, or they have changed back from large to small recently.

It also shows 4 for a £1 offer, which has now finished in my Lidl. So maybe not updated.

Best not to look at the "You may also be interested in..." section!

Hopefully this is just temporary or the return of the High Protein Rolls will have to be part of the Brexit negotiations.

Still 4 for £1 in my local Lidl as of yesterday. Still the big size (thank goodness).
I can't honestly imagine what I would do if they stopped them !

The 4 for a £1 offer was written on the label but crossed through with a black marker pen and I paid 29p each. They were still the big ones. That was Saturday.

The ones I've had recently have ranged in size from about 85g to 100g, don't think I've had any over 100g for months, so maybe size is related to whoever weighs out the dough?

On that point, I posted a few days ago about my local Lidl (which actually isn't that local) no longer supplying the rolls. I tried another store this morning, and was delighted to see they still sell them, though they only had 6 left when I got there. Sadly the next baking wasn't due for another couple of hours and I didn't have time to wait around. Surprisingly, they were on offer at 4 for a £1 as well, so that was a bonus.

Had one for lunch, and put the other 5 in the freezer. Didn't think to weigh them - I'll do a quick check, brb.

Result: Weighed 3 of them, each are exactly 4oz (about 110g) - a double bonus

Size might be the issue because on their product information page they give the weight as 85g.

So.... what are the carbs is a roll now weighs 85g??? (I'm rubbish at maths )

There are two types of rolls (big and small) with two different product codes and one of them is being phased out. That's what they will be talking about. Some of the smaller Lidls have a limited range so may not stock the rolls. This happened to my local. I was in two other Lidls today and both had loads.

No, not yet. Maybe they are struggling with the deluge of complaints from diabetics and weight trainers from all over the UK about them being discontinued.

I hope so.
