It does seem that some almonds at breakfast is a good idea for keeping my spike managable, strangely enough though, they didn't make any difference to my bg when I tried them with my lunch :? I know what you mean about fasting numbers varying so much, if I get up much past 8.30 my bg lets me know about it, I only get a lie in if I'd had a few cheeky vodkas the night before nowadays!
BTW, I wouldn't worry about the fat content of almonds too much as it's almost all mono and polyunsaturated fat and almonds have been shown to actually lower 'bad' choloesterol. I'm lucky(?) enough to not have to worry to much about calories as I'm a skinny db, but I realise that all that fat can quickly add up!
