as long as you get your calories a day or you can hypo with metformin, If you are cutting carbs it needs to be made up of fat and maybe a slight increase in proteinThe fats I eat are chicken, fish - all types including salmon, olive oil, some butter (not much) and small amount of cheddar cheese over salad. Never eat fried food or add fat to anything. One egg occasionally.

maybe you're one of the few who can't take metformin, My gut was ok after a couple of weeks, I would give it a month or so since you started them to settle, or see your Dr to change meds, you can't do 10 years like thisI haven't been counting calories, Jack. I lost 3 stones then stabilized for a few weeks and now am losing 1 lb+ a week. Metformin gives me awful stomach cramps so, as I needed to go shopping (following weeks of not being able to leave the house ) I left the Metformin off for 3 days. Trouble is, when you can't leave the house you can't get any exercise. I like to walk my dogs but they have had to suffer too, and I'm on the SR met.

To work out what's the best way forward . what is your normal fasting and 2 hr post meal? Diet alone may be an option, but the priority has to be to get your BG into safe levelsWell, I was diagnosed 22 November last year and put on ordinary Metformin which was a disaster, was then given the SR type, so I have been taking them for 4.1/2 months. My BG levels don't change whether I take Met or not, but I know there are other benefits, or so I have read. I have never been given the chance to try diet and exercise alone. Do you know what other options there are to Metformin?

You have to be feeling better without the gut problems. Your BG is very good, isn't it and it shouldn't take a big dose of another drug if needed.Hi Jack, My normal fasting in the morning is in the 5s, and 2 hr post meal is also in the 5s usually, though occasionally in the 6s if I have tried a new food. From halfway between meals until I eat it is often in the 4s. Sugar and potatoes are my worst enemies, and white bread, so I don't touch any of those. I don't eat pasta or rice anyway. When I eat something different I test more, before, at 1 hr and 2 hrs. After 4 days without Metformin may try it and see what happens, butt life has been more normal since stopping it. Trial and error I think!

Yes it is trial and error and wait and see.
let's hope the LC will keep it in range as the metformin wears off and you maybe able to slowly increase enough fat for the required calories to stay LC long term.
