Should obesity cause a sugar tax?

So to tax the consumer is the way to stop manufacturers adding sugar??? Does taxing fuel stop car manufacturers putting engines in their cars??
No.
Charge (not tax) the manufacturers for every grain of sugar they add to a product, use the money generated to educate the consumer. Educate.

Funny that I used to love ritz because of the slightly sweet/ salty taste they used to have.

Don't understand. I don't liberally lace my food with sugar and salt. I do not find that people I invite to dinner dislike the food. Actually, I only have sugar for emergencies, and guests who insist on putting it in tea or coffee. I never use it in cooking. Salt - I use very sparingly. As I steam most of my vegetables, then they get cooked without salt. Boiling potatoes is about the only exception, but they get very little salt. I make a lot of borsh, or beetroot soup. I add quarter to half a teaspoon of salt to around 4/5 litres The only dishes that really need salt - and then only a small amount - are egg ones. Spanish omelette does need a pinch of salt. I always put salt and pepper on the table should anyone wish them, but they are rarely used.
So, I do not understand the need to cram commercial food products with salt and sugar.
