Simple Mistake

I made a simple mistake that costed me roughly more than 2 months of bad control.
I used to take my Lantus pen out of the refrigerator to allow it to regulate its temperature before I inject. Sometimes it would go out an hour before injection sometimes a bit more. I started to notice that my Lantus drops me around 8 points throughout the night and that only by Lantus alone. A huge thanks to this community, someone mentioned that the same started to happen with his pen during holidays. Although that Lantus can take up to 28°C, I can confirm that it cannot stand such a temperature. I always put it in a room where the fan was on and temperature being always under 26°C. Yesterday, I opened a new pen and guess what! My dose was not enough to counter dawn phenomenon and it did not cause any drop during the first 2 hours which the old pen used to!
Dear diabetics, please pay attention to the way you store your insulin. It was a rough summer so far, I do feel bad but I am positive that things are going to be better from now on.

Sorry to read about your rough summer.
I had not heard about these problems with Lantus previously.
Fingers crossed you have got to the bottom of the problems.

Unfortunately, I do not always find my diabetes predictable. I guess it is because there is so much that can affect our BG.
Therefore, I try not to draw any conclusion from a one off change: I try it again the next day (or week if it is food related because I get bored with a food type very quickly). If the same thing happens next time, I am happy it was not just a coincidence.

Reading your frustrations over recent weeks, I am rooting for you that you have found the culprit.

If so, have you thought of investing in a Frio wallet? This will allow you to take your Lantus with you and not be tied to the fridge at basal time.

I couldn't imagine any other reason whatsoever for this to happen because my holiday meals are pretty routine and especially for breakfast and dinner where it is and has been exactly the same ever since i was first diagnosed. Carb rich and bit of fat (google Labneh) and I felt today so peaceful after the Lantus injection opposite to previous days where it dropped me around 6 to 7 points during the first 2.5 hours. It was very dramatic. I did rotate injection sites blah blah blah and no point. I am looking forward for tonight. Mind you I dropped from 19 to 10 and still had drops but not yesterday! I do believe I found the root of evil here and very optimistic now!
