SIMVASTATIN

Hi Everyone

I am new to diabetes, since August 08, originally put on Metformin after 4 weeks felt like I was dying, by fingers were all swollen and I could not bend them properly, doc said I had an allergic reaction to them and changed me to Glycozide 8o mg. a day. Blood readings 5.7 - 9.5. Doc wanted me to take tabs for chol. as reading is 6. I am 65, still overweight but have lost 2 1/2 stone and keeping going. Two weeks ago was prescribed Simvastin, for the last 8/9 days my palms of my hand are so painful and two fingers on one hand and one on the other are swollen and I am crippled with the pain, I wake up in the night and my fingers are almost curled up and I cant straighten them out. After reading your notes on the forum I am not going to take it tonight or tomorrow to see if it the Simvastin that is causing the problem. Appreciate and advice from you lovely people, from a scared newcommer.

Re: SIMVASTIN

Hi Carole ,and welcome to the forum. Before stopping any medication you really should discuss it with your doctor. Simvastatin does have side effects as do all drugs.Ask your doctor to do a full lipid test to see if you really need to be on statins at all.

Sue,

Thanks, I am making an appointment asap on Monday, but at the moment the pain in my hands is so bad I have to try something and as I have only been like this since taking these tablets I have to give it a try. Carole

Re: SIMVASTIN

It certainly will do you no harm stopping them tonight,Carole.I hope your doctor is helpful when you see him.

Re: SIMVASTIN

Hi there! I'm new to all this as a recently diagnosed type 1 and having very confusing troubles trying to understand my own symptoms which are not the same as yours, but i guess all our anxieties are simillar and just as frustrating!. I'm so sorry for your pain and that i can't give you any specific advice but i do hope over the next couple of nights things improve for you.
all the very best and let us know how things go.....

Thanks again Sue, and I will ask for a lipid test, gosh have I got a lot to learn. I had to ask my husband how to do this as I did not know how to get started, its nice to know I am not alone when I am sitting on the edge of the bed at 4 in the morning in pain hopefully, for not much longer.
Hey ho, off to bed. Thanks. Carole. By the way, have corrected spelling mistake.

Hi Ben,

This forum is great isnt it, took me a while to pluck up the courage to use it. I am type 2, I am having problems too. What do things mean, all the abbreviations it will keep me going for quite a while, I only know what a blood reading is in mml. I will keep in touch now I have broken the ice. Good luck to you, we will climb this mountain as new recruits together. Carole.

I hope that the doctor will investigate the pain in your hands and prescribe some form of relief for you.

Here is a thread with the most common abbreviations on it,hope this helps.

Hi Sue

Thanks for the link on abbreviations, most helpful. Had my first uninterupted sleep last night, first time in a week. Hands not as painful, but still swollen and cant do much. I think I actually feel better in myself but it may be mind over matter. Thanks for the support. Carole.

Hi Sue

Just to update you, saw doc last night, told me stop Simvastatin immed. I had an allergic reaction to them, fingers still swollen and bent, said it can take 4-6 weeks before I get back to feeling normal. I am certainly feeling better in myself, not so lethargic.

Thanks, Carole

glad youre feeling better, unfortunately simvastatin didnt agree with me either
