Type 2 Six monthly check up

I am fastidious about trying to keep my diabetes under control and am trying to reduce my insulin (Humalog Mix 50).

At my last check my GP was very pleased with my results and said I was borderline diabetic. I have rung the surgery to ask when my now very late check up will be! They respond saying sorry the Sister is away sick.
I am now nearly 3 months late and very annoyed as I am doing my bit! 1 stone and six pounds lost in six months.

Does anyone else have problems getting regular checks?

If you are in the UK you should be on the diabetes care path. This is laid down by NICE. It involves regular blood tests, normally every 3 months initially then 6 months until your meds and results are stable. At that stage your doctor/nurse may move you to annual checks. You should also have annual retinal screening and foot checks. If this isn't happening maybe you should keep chasing it up. In the meantime just keep an eye on your bs levels with your meter.

Well my last tests were in mid July but didn't see the consultant until mid September ..... The next appointment is the end of January and that will be six months approximately. I asked for them last week but they said it wasn't necessary but I suspect my levels are coming down and I wold welcome some good news!

I have been diabetic for 3 years, I saw DN twice in 1st 3 months, GP checked my feet once, I had my 1st eye test this year. So I'm not surprised you aren't getting support.
I visited my GP once a week until this summer asking for diabetes referral, contacted PALS and my GI consultant had tried to cross refer.

Thank you for your advice. I actually went to the surgery and am seeing the GP in November and have sorted out my blood test. They are still short staffed but normally they are quite hot on Diabetes as they have 2 specialist GPs. I have had my retinal screening and visit the chiropodist every 10 weeks. BS results are good so keeping my fingers crossed for the HA1bc and cholesterol being acceptable.

Wow makes my little problem seem rather pathetic, sorry you are getting so little support, hopefully now you have had your retinal screening you should be called back automatically.

Best of luck
