Good advice. I just joined a carb tracker and that's helping. I need to up the net carbs to 100 - 130g and see if that helps putting weight on. I was too thin to be so low on carbs, my body needs them. Eating plenty of fats and protein and veggies. Had toast with dinner last night and 2 x 6g biscuits (havent eaten any in 9 wks). Only needed an extra unit of insulin. This morning had cereal, gave an extra unit and bg was 20.2 two hrs later. Not tried pasta, rice or baked potatoes yet. Oh the joys of balancing insulin dosage and starchy food. Here's hoping I don't have too many bg spikes.Hi. Your diet is already quite good. I might increase the fats a bit and if you are still worried about being too thin then you could increase the carbs and match them with insulin.

Just had a lactofree cream and 100% unsweetened cocoa powder hot chocolate - yum. Will need to source kefir grains and I think I can make it dairy free. Thanks for your advice - much appreciated
Hi - just on insulin at mealtimes - am in the honeymoon. Stable bg on meat veggies and dairy free,making night sleep so good but losing weight. Adding starchy carbs and I get spikes. Trying to suss out what starchy carbs spike the least and how much more insulin to give. So far bread and an extra unit is working. Cereal is a no no. Look at the diet doctor I learned so much from that site. Using carb manager to track my daily carbs to find a range that works for me keeping bg stable. Starting to log what foods need more insulin and how much more they need. Patience is not my strong point lol.Hi, really interested to see how you get on. I am (actually was) T2D. I don't take any medication, right from the start. My GP wanted to put me on Glucophage, and I asked him to give me time to manage my diabetes naturally. He agreed, was very reluctant. Basically, I am low carb high fat. My regular meals consist of low GI veggies (raw and cooked), meat, chicken, fish and lots of fats (tallow, olive oil, butter, kefir, cheese, etc) seeds like sesame and flax-seed and nuts. I do regular exercise (one-hour walks 6 days a week). I ensure good quality sleep. Bread, pasta, sweets, juices, etc., don't figure on my menu. Last Jan. Hi - was on basal and bolus for 4mths after diagnosis and eating a high carb diet. Then I took no insulin for 16 days and ate a very low carb diet. But bg changed and now need small doses of insulin with meals. My nurse is awesome.Am very lucky. She referred me to the dietician and they both looked at a week's food diary and made sure I was eating a balanced diet even though low carb. I have had chronic acid reflux for several years so dairy and gluten are no no's. Lucky side effect of diabetes for you. Am eating so much food and high fat that I never ate before. Am aiming for at least 100g net carbs per day and using carb manager to track it. Will speak to my diabetic nurse for advice. Finding bg lower in the evening so need to think about dinner dosage. Not sure how you manage carbs on basal. Good luck - maybe your nurse is right and we need more carbs. Or change your nurse xI have read that cereal can be tricky! I’m also in the honeymoon but only taking basal - not bolus yet. Have you always been lactose intolerant? I’m asking because I was (for almost two years) up until diagnosis, very odd, but now I can have dairy with no problems?! Are you aiming for a certain amount (grams) of carbs a day? Is your diabetic nurse/team okay with lower carb? x
My meals are starch-free (bread, rice, potato, etc). The only dietary glucose I ingest comes from low GI fruits, nuts, legumes... In fact, being at my dinner table is a real joy and delight. I eat for good health and pleasure, not because of carb addiction & cravings.That is so helpful - do you not eat any starchy carbs, rice or potatoes etc?
