If so do any of you have any advice of what i should or shouldn't do when i do join???

I would appreciate all the help i can get because i really want to lose weight and keep the diabetes under control...thank you

There's been a lot of posts about Slimming World And Weight Watchers on the forum, if you type it into the search facility in the top right-hand corner of the forum you should see past posts on this subject.

My wife did Slimming World a few years back, at the time there was a type 2 gentleman on the course who lost 5 stone in weight, not sure what foods he ate in doing so but the course co-ordinator said that they make alllowences for people with diabetes.

Your best bet is to have a chat with your local group and see if they can cater for your dietary needs.

Hi, do you have lots of weight to lose? I was given a referral to Slimming World by my GP. You could ask your own GP about this. It entitles you to 12 weeks free if you are eligible

I might just go like you say and talk to the person who runs the local group and see what they say, thanks

Hi zand...unfortunately i do have lots to lose and i have been to doctors before and they referred me to Why Weight well i think thats what they called it but it was all about calorie counting etc so i couldnt get my head around it
I have been to slimming world in the past and did lose a lot of weight but over a few years a put it back on again and i must say i love that diet and understand it but just wasn't sure if diabetics could do it too so its great news to hear others have...How did you cope on this diet with your diabetes??

Hi Twinkle Toes, I think SW is good as long as you dont go overboard with carbs like they say you can. Red days are good because the carbs are limited to healthy extras and are also full of fibre. I would suggest you try it, see how it works out for you but test your bg's along the way to see what you can and cant eat. Good luck

Hi Sue...oh yeah i forgot on red days carbs are limited so i could do red days with a very small amount of carbs and lots of veggies or salad and should be okay and not to forget to check my bg's too, thanks for that

Well, I need to confess to you that I am only going to Slimming World to weigh every week. I am following a low carb/high fat diet myself as I find this suits me better, obviously I have to be careful not to overdo the high fat side of the equation, or I wouldn't lose weight.

I will defo keep you all updated and zand you have to do what best for you so if that suits you then fair enough

I did go see the nurse today and said he wants me to diet for a couple of months and then recheck my bloods then go from there...i did tell him i was joining slimming world, he said as long as i had a plan of losing weight and kept the carbs low then that was fine but no monitor so i've ordered one off Amazon with some strips etc *fingers crossed* it should be here tomorrow or the next!!

Oh before i forget how much carbs should i be having in a day please??
