Hi everyone. I last left a message on 17-march. It was about what to eat to keep my mind off smoking. I hadn't had a cig for 3 days and I wanted to know of any snacks that would keep my mouth busy. Well you certainly gave me some good ideas but I thought I'd tell you that I am now 2 months without ciggies but I've found out why I was so thin. An overactive thyroid. I was shocked to say the least and had been blaming how I felt on the diabetes. I'm back to the 'Endo next week and will find out what's going to happen. I just hope that something can be done so I can stop the Carbimazole pills. They are a nightmare for me. I've even got toothache where there is no teeth!!!
Swollen ankles and swollen lower legs and the pain and weakness in my shoulders and arms is unbelievable. I never knew that the thyroid caused all this suffering( what a martyr I am!)
I wondered if there is a link between this and diabetes. Does anybody know.
Perhaps a cig will make me feel better! haha! Cheers all

thyroid disorders are common in diabetics, i sympathise with you as i ended up in ccu with hyperthyroidism and subsequently ended up the other way with hypothyroidism, well done with the smoking

Totsy. How did you get better or are you just waiting for it to happen again? Cheers.

the thyroid???
i had carbimazole, then it went to normal after about a yr, then i went to not making any thyroxine at all about 4 yrs later, once on thyroxine on a stable dose i suffered no symptoms, my thyroid will not work again tho,
i have a friend that underwent iodine therapy that worked well for an overactive thyroid too
