I was just wondering, if you check 2 hours after a meal and get a 5 or 6 would you have to eat a snack to last you till your next meal/snack or would you be able to leave it a bit longer without it dropping too much :?: Just wondering...
Thank you!
My son is 2 and if we got a reading of 5 or 6 I would be looking to give him a snack fairly quickly because he would without question go too low before the next meal. He usually always has a snack between meals to keep him going.

Good question and much depends on the previous meal and type of insulin you are using. Mostly I try to get in and around the 6 mark two hours after eating, and if I am 5 or slightly below I may have 5-10g of carbs to keep me safe. The other day I was 4.8 and had a oat cracker (5.6g) and this took me nicely up to 6.1 pre- evening meal. Just remember that a high fat meal takes longer to impact on blood glucose and can raise levels 3-5 hours after eating.
