So fed up...

Sorry for the rant everyone, but I am soooo fed up with my GP surgery...

Got a letter two weeks algo, telling me to make my first diabetes clinic appointment, letter said for two weeks time...So went down to surgery next day after receiving the letter to make an appointment...Earliest i can be seen is November 20th!!!!...Why do they send letters out if there is no **** appointments?? I'm actually petrified....Depsite losing weight( not much i hastly add) and lowering my bloods somewhat...I still dont have a clue if I'm on the right path regarding my diabetes (type 2).....I feel ready to throw the towel in and give up :roll: I was diagnosed in July....so as you can see....its been sometime since i recieved any help at all from gp, dn etc....

I think its absolutely shocking that we are all left to "just get on with it"

meant to add....I have my first Diabetic Retinophy screening next week....Thats the first thing Ive had since being diagnosed...
 
I'm sure they could have got you in sooner especially if the gp has requested two weeks time, try ringing the surgery again and express your concerns at having to wait so long after diagnosis, often they get cancellations and may be able to fit you into the clinic sooner than November.
 

Ive tried all that noble unfortunately, the clinic only runs once a month...So I must have just missed the last one...They said there is nothing that can be done until then...So I'm stuck in limbo yet again...Its so annoying...I just want to know if I'm doing things right ...I just cant believe we get left like this...

Sharon, how have you been getting on with your meter ? This is your best indicator about whether you're on the right path.
Keep down the blood sugars, slow down or keep way complications. It's the simplicity the NHS won't see.
Your meter is a best friend. Your GP/DSN may or may not be. It's up to you to be in control.

well done my bloods this morning and got 4.6....Ive never been higher than 6.9 lately...So all in all...Seem to be doing fine..Feel much better too but still lacking energy and tired all the time despite cutting down on my carb instake...Struggling to eat 3 meals a day though, never been my strong point!...Ive lost 12kilos so far, not really following a diet plan, just cut back on lots of things and to be honest, only thing i really miss having is pasta and rice, but i still have it, just switched to wholemeal but eat it maybe twice a week now..so think I'm doing okay...considering my blood was sitting at 10.8 about 6 weeks ago
 


Clinic aside I'm sure the DN/DSN in the surgery could see you anytime in a routine appointment, ask the surgery to book you in for an appointment to be seen by a nurse and stipulate you want it to be with the diabetes nurse.
 


Thanks Noble, the nurse i usually see is the designated diabetes nurse anyway, so will try get an appointment with her.

I really feel sorry for you, my nurse practioner (my DN) has told me that if I ever have problems getting an appt with her via the reception staff to just email her and she will arrange the appt. Maybe I am one of the very lucky ones.
 
Well done Sharon!! looks like you are doing great with those bg readings.

I dont know whether its GP surgerys in General.

I know it can be frustrating, I was due to get my bloods done ready for my appt at the hosp. Included in the bloods was a fasting one which as you can imagine can be tricky for a T1. Anyway I gave about 4 weeks notice for the surgery to book very early bloods for fasting ( I usualy have them done at my surgery and was reasurred last time that if I said I was on insulin they would give me the earliest possible appt 8/8.30am ) However when I tried to make the appt I was told earliest was 10am ( Impossible.) I was told I would have to have it done at the hosp, a fair drive from where I live so I had to phone the path lab and sort ( receptionist at surgery also told me that I would have to fast for 14 hrs. ( again just not possible ) The path lab told me that it was 9.00hrs. They were really helpful! I then had to get in touch with my DSN who advised me to reduce my long acting dramatically to ensure I got to hosp safely and without hypo. ( which I did ) I then was running high bloods until I could have my bfast at the hosp and do a correction dose! When I am trying to reduce my HBA1C.

Very frustrating!!

Hello Sharon ... we all need a rant now and then especially when newly diagnosed and feel left to flounder not knowing whether we're doing right or wrong. It's horrible. But please try not to worry - in some ways the NHS does us diabetics a favour because at least we get the chance to go away and check out a few forums and to be honest, that's probably the best thing. I also had to wait about 2-3 weeks for my first appointment with the DN during which time I read this forum from top to bottom and learned sooooooooooooooooo much. I'm now about 9 weeks after diagnosis and feel a lot more in control, but of course, at first I was also very, very scared and a bit lost as to where to start with it all.

You'll find from the forum that some people aren't helped by the NHS standard diet recommendations so you've actually come to the right place and also that there are many different ways to approach diabetes and what suits one doesn't suit another.

I'd recommend you go to the FOOD AND NUTRITION SECTION to start with, there you can see the many different dietary approaches and decide for yourself what you think would suit you - I'm a LOW CARB HIGH FAT DIET person and I find this website a Godsend - http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf

Just remember that you can take your time here, ask as many questions as you like and rant whenever you feel the need.

thanks everyone.....I'm just so annoyed as i said, was diagnosed away back at the start of july and still waiting to be seen by the diabetes nurse for my first session at the clinic...should have been this month but having to wait another month, its beyond the joke,i know i have it kinda under control, but what would happen if i was having complications in the meantime? its just so wrong...they treat us like we arent important.....

Anyway, ive learnt so much via this forum and members, i honestly am in awe....at least you get the help from people have actually have diabetes and know what works for them

Chances are, you wont be in there for long, she won't tell you anything you don't already know and will probably tow the party line on recommending carbs with every meal. You know better than that, don't you
